Holdem Poker - How To Win Cash Games

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Sean Moronse asked:

At any time you’re playing poker, you want to bring all you got to the poker table, especially when playing cash games. Cash games are a high speed adrenaline rush every single hand. Unlike a cautious tournament, you can win some major money in the blink of an eye.

The way to play No-Limit Hold’em cash games at a full table is to constantly have patience and do not play stupid. Playing cash games at a 9 seater is all about patience. You need to wait before throwing your money into the pot, especially when it’s REAL money. If you are a texas holdem play money player and have currently switched over to playing texas holdem poker online cash games, you will be in for a harsh surprise. People play nothing like play money games, in real money games. The only way to truly get a feel of texas holdem is to play for real money. When you play for real money it doesn’t always have to be for such high stakes, you can start off at the low stakes level (.05/.10 blinds) and still learn poker well. The best pre-flop hands possible are AA, KK, QQ, A-K and should not be played lightly. These are your money making hands which you will be making an absolute killing on.

Whether it is the world series of poker or the world poker tour or even just a .05/.10 cash game, you should play exactly the same every time and not slack off. Just because you feel the stakes aren’t as high as you would like them to be, you need to take everything seriously especially if you want to be a professional poker player. If you possess discipline and are a very patient player, you should have no problem making some great money online.

Now when you play at a full-table, the only hands of merit worth raising are the peak four pre-flop hands. These hands are AA, KK, AK, and QQ. Again, these are your money making hands and they will pay off especially if you hit trips with them. Hitting a poker set is the deadliest thing possible in a cash game. NO ONE can see it on the board and it can earn you a pretty penny or cost you a large amount of agony and money. I have been playing cash games for an extremely long time, 20 years to be exact and the largest pot I ever won was with a poker set. Let me BRIEFLY share with you. I had Pocket 3’s, another guy had Pocket AA’s, and another guy had Pocket KK’s. Let’s just say the flop came 3, J, 8. You know what happened next? I ended up winning over $15,000 in a single hand. Dang it felt good. You know what I ended up doing? Let’s say a whole lot of partying the next day. It’s a great feeling winning this amount of money and watching all your hard work finally pay off. I wish you the best of luck at the poker tables!

A Review Of The 12 Decks ESPN Poker Club Plastic Playing Cards

Saturday, October 11th, 2008
world series of poker
Brian Garvin asked:

The 12 Decks ESPN Poker Club Plastic Playing Cards is straight from the ESPN stable. If you want a card set used by professionals you can use the 12 Decks ESPN Poker Club Plastic Playing Cards.

Sometimes when we buy playing cards we seldom go to check whether the card is designed for a professional game or not. All we may check out is the set of 52 cards. However many people who are passionate about their games may choose to go for a professional set of cards.

This is when cards such as the 12 Decks ESPN Poker Club Plastic Playing Cards comes into these picture. These cards are designed with exact specifications that are required by the International gaming associations. If you go to play in a poker tournament you will surely see professional card sets being used by the players.

These poker cards are made of 100% plastic and quite different from the cards that we usually use in our homes. It is not a bad idea to get the professional set of cards for your home poker games also. There are some reasons. Let us find out what.

For one, these cards are durable because they are made of 100% plastic. Used properly they can go for a long period of time. The only chance is that after games we very often forget to put the cards in the pack and keep it at a safe place. During the next game we try to find the set and fail to find it.

This is when we quickly go out and get another set which may not be at par with the earlier set. With the “World Series of Poker” becoming popular, the 12 Decks ESPN Poker Club Plastic Playing Cards are being widely used. These cards can handle the wear and tear and inspite of heavy usage they can go on for quite sometime.

Another great feature of these cards are that they are washable. If you think that your card set is not looking clean, you can simply wipe them with a damp washcloth and scrub them a little. When you take them out, they will look as if they have been bought new from the market.

The cost difference between an ordinary pair of cards and the 12 Decks ESPN Poker Club Plastic Playing Cards is not much. As a result it makes sense to buy a professional pack of cards for your home games. The entire pack consists of 6 Red deck and 6 Black deck.

The poker set has been endorsed by Annie Duke the winner of the World series and fondly called the “Duchess of Poker”. I cannot think of any other rating for this set of cards apart from a full 10 points. Compared to any other card set in the market this one is simply the professional poker player’s choice.

If you are wondering about which card set to buy for your poker games you can simply opt for this one. I am sure that the 12 Decks ESPN Poker Club Plastic Playing Cards will go on for a long time and you do not have to buy another set in quite sometime. I hope that I have helped you to select your pack of cards.

Stop And Go At Ladbrokes Poker

Friday, October 3rd, 2008
world series of poker
Michael Binns asked:

Stop and Go: Advanced Poker Strategy by Greg Raymer

Those who are regular at Ladbrokes poker must have heard the name of the World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Greg Raymer. He was initially a sit-and-go player and was a part time Internet player. At sit-and-go poker games, 9 or 10 players compete at a single table.

The sit-and-go strategy works well in live poker, but it is more suitable for playing at Ladbrokes poker online. The strategies are different from other multi-table tournaments and are increasingly becoming popular at Ladbrokes poker. Raymer is famous for inventing the advanced poker strategy ‘Stop and Go’, which is an often-used strategy at Ladbrokes poker. It is commonly used when you have dealt a pocket pair and are short stacked in an online poker tournament. This strategy works best at the big blind and facing a raise from a single opponent.

Take for example a situation where you are in the big blind with 9 big blinds and are dealt pocket eights. A player in late position opens the pot for a standard 3x BB raise. Action folds around to you and you simply make the call; however, you commit yourself to pushing all-in no matter what comes on the flop. This is the essence of stop and go, and why it is considered an advanced strategy.

There are three reasons why the stop and go technique can be a successful play most of the times at Ladbrokes poker. Check out the examples that can help you to be a winner.

If you re-raise and push your short stack all-in before the flop with a medium pocket pair, you are likely to get a call from a lot of hands. A push here will get a call from several pocket pairs that are beating you at the moment, or two over cards which you would be racing against. Neither are situations that you want to get all your money in the middle of the pot with in a tournament situation at Ladbrokes poker.

If your opponent does have a better pocket pair than you and he faces over cards on the board after you push on the flop, he will have a hard time calling your bet. This technique will force him to fold a better hand and give you the pot.

If your opponent has two overcards to your pair and fails to hit one on the flop he will almost surely be forced to fold. Maybe he even has a hand like 10-9 suited on a ten high flops and will have a hard decision on his hand at Ladbrokes poker.

Once you delay your all-in move until after the flop with the stop-and-go technique, you will get a few extra ways to pick up the pot, possibly with the worst hand. Unless your opponent hits the flop hard, they will have a tough time making the call after the flop, whereas pre-flop they may have easily called the raise.

Regardless of the type of three cards that fall on the flop, push is the way to become a stop-and-go expert at Ladbrokes poker. If you were to chicken out and check the original raiser you leave yourself open to an easy steal with a continuation bet. If you are short, and spot your opportunity for this play, commit yourself fully to the stop and go strategy. You can hope to gain some extra chips to mount your comeback.

Big Winners at Poker

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008
world series of poker
Charmaine Smith asked:

Ever since poker joined the mainstream with the introduction of the World Series of Poker (WSP) in 1970, year on year the winnings have increased substantially.

Looking back to the first year of the WSP, no actual winnings for the winner, Johnny Ross, were recorded. However, only a year later in 1971 the winner, once again Johnny Ross, took away $30,000. With less than 10 entrants to the competition, the prize was in the grasps of all and it was no wonder why competition was so high.

Over the next 20 years, with the number of entrants increasing, the winnings continued to grow also. First tens of thousands of dollars were added, then around fifty thousand dollars were added, followed by hundreds of thousands of dollars being added to the grand total. Then, in 1991, with 215 entrants, the World Series of Poker winning amount inevitably hit the $1,000,000. It was no wonder that by this time, being a full time, professional poker player was seen as an acceptable - and a much sought after - career.

With the poker tournaments being screened on satellite TV in later years and with the introduction of onlinepoker, and therefore increased popularity, the winnings now stand just shy of $10,000,000 at $9,119,517, which one winner from the 6,844 participants will win.

Of course, the World Series of Poker isn’t the only big paying poker tournament. The World Poker Tour arranges a variety of poker tournaments throughout the year since it was established in 1992. For example, the LA Poker Classic tournament regularly sees the winner take away one or two million dollars, whilst the Five Diamond World Poker Classic offers very similar amounts. For someone who could, in reality, win both, the winnings could be substantial to say the least. It’s no wonder that so many students are dropping out of University and playing poker full time to win large amounts of cash. Even if they were to win a fraction of the winnings, they would, when compared to the majority of the population, be considered wealthy and could live a happy and successful life. When also considering it’s ‘working’ in a ‘job’ you love, it’s a tempting road to take.

So who is the richest poker player?

It’s debatable who’s been the most successful poker player in respect of winnings and money earned, as individual earning records aren’t made publicly available. However, it’s rumoured that some of the most successful poker players ever, such as Phil Ivey, Chip Reese and Doyle Brunson, are playing private games with millions changing hands, meaning their bank roll will easily be in the early tens of millions.

It must always be remembered though - for all massive wins in poker, someone somewhere will be losing a massive amount. Remember the rumour about Ben Affleck? It was flying around Hollywood that in a single year, he lost over $7m at poker. And according to the actual poker companies, only 15% of players actually win. Maybe it’s best to keep your money in the bank.

The Best Poker Players Of All Time

Saturday, July 12th, 2008
wsop
Adel Awwad asked:

The best of anything is a matter of opinion and perspective, and this is absolutely true when trying to decide who are the best poker players. This also has to be broken into tournament play, cash game play, and the type of poker game. Some poker players are great in certain games like Holdem and not so great in other games. According to what is said about Chip Reese, the great poker player, many professionals think he would be the choice, even though his WSOP wins are not as prolific as Brunson, Chan, and Hellmuth. However, Reese won three WSOP tournaments before his death in 2007. In 2006, Reese won the prestigious $50,000 Buy-in Horse Tournament at the WSOP. The Horse tournament is difficult to win, as it combines several poker games in one tournament. These are Holdem, Omaha, Razz, Seven-card Stud, and Seven-card Stud Hi Low. Reese’s long time friend, Doyle Brunson, considered him one of the best poker players he ever played against. That is high praise from a player many considered the Godfather of Poker. Brunson, Hellmuth, and Johnny Chan are considered the best when it comes to playing Holdem. Hellmuth has the most wins at the WSOP at this time with eleven wins all in Holdem.

The Poker Kid, Daniel Negreanu, after a failed try at Las Vegas poker when he was 21, has come on very strong in his play in TV tournaments like the WPT and other tournaments that were TV oriented. Negreanu is also considered a very tough cash game player, unlike Hellmuth who is considered an excellent Holdem tournament player, but an average cash game player. The top cash game players are supposedly happy to see him show up for the big cash games in Vegas.

T J Cloutier, another long time opponent and friend of Doyle Brunson, has long been considered one of the best players in the poker world. His consistency is amazing in showing up at final tables. His cash game prowess has always stood him in good stead. Like Brunson, he makes few mistakes, and players who win against him are usually just a shade luckier than he was in the tournament.

One of the long time faces at final tables is the player, Dan Harrington. He made the final table two years in a row against huge fields in the WSOP. That is a testament to his skill at playing tournament poker. In one website vote, he was voted the best player of the professionals.

Some of the recent winners of the WSOP main event have become money leaders, or very high on the list of earnings due to the huge 1st place prize money. However, few if any are considered the best poker player in the world at this time. It will take several years to see if these winners were a one trick player or have the real skill to get to final tables again.

The public has little knowledge of another group of players that are extremely good players. These are the players that take a seat in some of the biggest cash games in the world. Las Vegas has long been the place to play if a player wanted to play in a poker game which had the highest stakes Almost every day, you can see some of the best cash game players play in places like the Rio, the Bellagio, or the Venetian casino. These games are not only for solid players, but also for players with ample resources to play in a game where a bad day could be well over a $100,000 loss. This play not only takes money to play, but the courage to take that level of risk on the turn of a card. These players have to live with the risk that a better hand can ***** a solid hand. Many of these player-participants are only known to the cash players and are rarely seen on TV. The only place some of them have been seen is playing in the High Stakes Poker program that is now on TV. But when you watch their play, you can easily see that they do not play bad hands. It is also obvious that they are not prone to making playing mistakes or bad calls. Some of these players cannot afford to play in tournaments, as they would lose too much time and would make less money than they do in cash games. The only time you will see them is in a game like High Stakes Poker, or in a big cash game in a casino. Yet, several of them could be rated in the running for best poker player. Their play warrants it as well as their annual winnings.

Conclusions

The best poker players of all time come down to personal choice and perception. Most of the well-known names in the current poker scene have shown they know how to play very well. Current old timers remember some of the old time players as the best they ever played against. The problem is most people never saw them play. Stu Unger was a kid when he first won the WSOP two years in a row. His play was the best, say the players who tried to beat him. Unfortunately for him, he was a drug addict and addicted to other forms of gambling like sports betting and horses. He disappeared from play after his second win, and when he came back for a third try, he won again. Three tries in the WSOP and three wins. That is an amazing record. The question that still goes unanswered is how good would he have been if he had taken care of himself and lived a less wild life. His talent was at a level that most players only dream about. His name has to be considered when discussing the best poker players. His mental skills were genius level as was his card playing skill. His weakness was his drug addiction. Make your own choice as to the best poker player. Your pick is as good as most.

World series of poker 2008 is going to be a fun and exciting time with TONS of money at stake and a chance to win millions and millions of dollars. To play in the world series of poker (aka espn world series of poker) you can buy in directly for $10,000 or win a satellite ticket to this main event for as little as 2 dollars! If you go to full tilt poker or poker stars you can see mini step events that lead to the main event. You start on step one and the top 2 finishers move on to the next step, while 3rd place wins you another ticket into the same step. There are a total of 7 steps. Towards the higher steps 5, 6, 7, if you finish after 3rd place you still win seats to steps below the one you were at. The only way to really lose when playing steps is to finish above 5th place in the later rounds. It is fun and exciting and won of the best ways to win world series of poker chips that are good for the main event. For 2 dollars you can have a 10k+ world series of poker ticket. Not only do you win a ticket to the main event, you get 2500 bucks in travel expenses which will pay for your plane ticket and hotel! Each step puts you closer to the world series of poker circuit event. You can check out the world series of poker homepage for the latest results that are updated up to the second.

Last year I won a ticket into the main event. I had never been so happy in my entire life. I thought it I was going to have a good chance to win it this year, but unfortunately something came up and I was forced to sell my ticket. I got $11,200 for my ticket and travel. Instead of the full $12,500 value I received only 1300 bucks less for selling it. Which means, even if you’re not planning on attending the world series of poker, if you win a ticket you can always sell it for a huge chunk of change. There is nothing like a world series of poker satellite and it is honestly the only way to go because of how simple it is to win a seat. If you can play, you can be the next world series of poker winner! You need to really take your time in winning these satellite ticket events. You can become the next WSOP winner and always be famous. You will receive millions and millions of dollars in endorsements and become a world renown poker player. People will go to google and type in world series of poker past winners and see your name. Playing in this main event is just like winning 600+ single table sit n go’s at one time. That’s how you need to look at it. When playing, you need to take it one table at a time, win that table, and move on! I wish you the best of luck!

World Poker Tournament-Learn How to Win a Free Entry!

Sean Moronse asked:

World Poker Tournament features the best poker players in the world playing a series of international poker tournaments. It is the tournament every poker player wants to play in.

The most prestigious and biggest world poker tournament is the World Series of Poker. It assembles every year all the great poker players worldwide and play against each other. Afterwards, the best among the rest will stand out and will gain the prestige of being a champion and will have the chance to take home millions of dollars.

The World Series of Poker is being held in Las Vegas annually. It was originally started by Tom Moore at the Holiday Hotel and Casino in 1968. What makes this world poker tournament very popular are the prizes involved as well as the players who attend it. Some of the high profile poker players who engage in WSOP are Phil Hellmuth and Johnny Chan. Its main event is the Texas Hold’em tournament which has a buy-in no limit of $10 000. The winners of the main event receive the largest cash prize in world poker tournament and a diamond and platinum bracelet which certify that the players are truly the best poker players worldwide.

There some tips to consider in winning a world poker tournament. First is to lay odds on the pre-flop raises. In world poker tournament, antes are being introduced along with the blinds after the fourth level. It is advisable also to get away with higher raise when making a hand to raise. Lower raise means lower risks.

Second, the player should take good care of his or her stack of chips before anything else. Protecting the chips is the very first thing to put into mind when the player is involved in a pot. In this way, the player can have the chance to protect the hands while not losing the pot. Remember being cautious is very important in playing poker games. Also put into mind that if the opponent bets for a river card, the player should call and just hope that the third king isn’t in hand.

Third, get away with situations like coin flip. Avoid playing large pots in a situation wherein the chance of winning is only 50-50. One example for this is acquiring a middle pair versus two higher cards. If the player is in this situation, the best thing to do is to avoid raising again before the flops.

Lastly, be aware of the stacks of chips and never ever give up. This is because players tend to play aggressively and desperately with short stacks. This playing move is very premature. It is more important to put the player’s attention to the stacks of chips rather than to the antes and blinds. And when the player decided to play a hand, the player should push it all in already. It is always alright to waste only one full round before taking the pot a great shot.

The aforementioned tips are some of the techniques of the best poker players playing in a world poker tournament. Keeping these techniques in mind will lead to success in any poker tournament.
